TransPac Eagle 40: Perfect for the Great Loop or Coastal Cruising
Designed by Transpacific Marine with a background in sailboats, the Eagle 40 has many of the attributes that make it a comfortable, easy to handle trawler for traveling the Great Loop either on the ICW or offshore. It is also a wonderful yacht for slipping into all the coastal anchorages and quaint towns along the shoreline.
With an appealing classical look, the hull has a sheer line rising from a slightly curved transom toward a moderately raked bow. She rides on a solid fiberglass semi-displacement hull with a relatively wide beam, flat aftersections, and a deep prop-protecting keel. The cored superstructure is crowned by a flybridge coaming that defines the upper helm station, and the flybridge extends sternward. This is an extended-range, live-aboard design with traditional styling within.
Convenient boarding is provided by port and starboard gates that open directly in front of the port or starboard sliding pilothouse doors. High gunwales protect the walkways leading from bow to stern. The aft deck has access to the salon and access to the flybridge above. The upper helm station has a double-wide bench seat with engine controls, Raymarine multifunction display (GPS) repeater, depth gauge, remote autopilot and compass. The propane grill and a hoist are also on this level.
Upon entering the salon, one is surprised by the spaciousness of the L-shaped seating and dining area with a full length settee opposite. The dining table can be lowered to make a double bed. The galley is well appointed with ample cabinet and drawer storage above and below. Slide out storage is provided for pots and pans and the trash container. The two burner Force 10 electric stove and the microwave/convection oven have the cooking needs covered. Opposite the granite counter with deep double stainless steel sinks is another counter with TV above and Isotherm refrigerator/freezer below. Next to the refrigerator is a food pantry with sliding shelves.
Going forward, the stairs to the pilothouse lift for access to the starboard side of the engine room, with a short ladder leading into this space. Going up leads to a raised observation lounge with settee and rectangular table. This offers passengers a commanding view through three windshield panes, each fitted with a windshield wiper. Rear windows provide views to the stern. The pilothouse has an instrument console sufficiently large to accommodate the navigation displays, engine controls, bow thruster controls and electronics, with the ship’s AC AND DC panel just below. A large chart table adjacent to the console hinges upward for access to a chart and document storage compartment.
Forward of the pilothouse is the stateroom with a queen walk around berth with drawers below. The ample head compartment with sink, storage and electric toilet with Purasan treatment is to starboard; the large separate shower with seat is to port. There are two hanging lockers and four additional drawers. Three overhead hatches provide sufficient light. The engine room is easily accessible via the raised steps or the four floor hatches in the pilothouse. The engine room houses the Perkins 225 HP turbo engine, Racor fuel filters, house batteries, start/windlass battery, new Kuuma water heater and one fuel tank to port and two fuel tanks to starboard.
The lazarette in the aft deck opens upward to access the 6KW Northern Lights generator and ample storage for deck gear.
Three reverse cycle air conditioners provide comfort in all weather conditions. Complete canvas covers and sunshades protect the varnish when she is not cruising. A 10″ West Marine dinghy and a four stroke Tohatsu 9.9 HP engine are included for shore excursions.
The Eagle 40 is truly a safe, comfortable and easily managed cruising yacht.
